Lasses & Lads PlaySpace Frequently Asked Questions
1. Is Lasses & Lads a daycare center?
No, Lasses & Lads PlaySpace is not a daycare center.
It is a children's "gym", but not in the ordinary sense of the word "gym." Its creators have called it a "PlaySpace", because, above all, it is a place where children have the opportunity to engage in active, creative play.
Lasses & Lads PlaySpace offers safe, structured, educationally-based, creative play for children from six months to six and a half years.
Lasses & Lads offers Classes, Private, Personalized Birthday Parties and a great Summer Program -- all fun for your child and relaxing for you.
Activities are appropriate for the developmental stage of your child.
Lasses & Lads was created and is operated by child educators with over 40 years combined experience with children of all ages: teaching, coaching, running summer camp, etc.
2. Briefly, how would you describe your program?
Our primary offerings consist of energetic, and active play
classes designed to meet the developmental needs of your
child.
Through creative planning and use of the PlaySpace and equipment,
we provide children with opportunities for both structured and creative “free” play.
The "developmental domains" addressed include: social, language, gross- and fine-motor, cognitive and self-help.
3. What makes your program different from others?
Lasses & Lads offers a program that can meet the needs of YOUR child -- not JUST the common needs of all children, though we have those covered as well. As trained educators, we have created a program, based not only on the developmental needs of a particular age-group, but one that crosses over “domains” and can be differentiated to facilitate the progress of YOUR child. We understand that not all children develop at the same pace and have endeavored to accommodate this in our daily classes and other activities.
4. What is the duration of a “session” and how long are your classes?
Most sessions last for seven consecutive weeks (except our winter/spring session, which runs 10 weeks), though a child can join a class at any time. Classes generally are one hour long. Some of our members take advantage of the FREE “Open Play” classes that follow their class, giving their child a longer play period.
5. What do your members like about Lasses & Lads PlaySpace?
Everything! But what members like BEST about Lasses & Lads is the feeling of inclusion. We have listened to the needs of our members and have made important and realistic changes to our program. Flexibility and affordability have been the two most important requests. We are a family ourselves and can appreciate both of these. Sibling classes and discounts, “refer-a-friend” incentives, and “flexible family fun” punch cards are a few of the flexible and affordable programs we now offer.
6. Are your birthday parties as “personalized” as everyone says?
Every bit! A birthday party for a child is one of the most special times for both the family and for the child. We help make it so by providing a safe and structured environment that provides for fun, friendships, and family. We encourage theme parties that provide for ample opportunity for play, but we can accommodate your need to provide food for guests, and can arrange for special activities like: scavenger hunts, make a craft, “create a critter”, or “weird science”. Our parties are typically for 10-20 children, but we can cater to more or less with adjusted pricing.
Our spacious PlaySpace and professional staff can accommodate large groups with relative ease -- and absent the feeling of "chaos" that one would normally associate with a large number of energetic children. This is where our experience as teachers comes in very handy!
7. What is “Drop and Shop”?
Drop and Shop is a program that is fairly unique to Lasses & Lads PlaySpace. Parents drop off a child in the care of our professional staff for as long as two hours. We encourage the parents to arrange for a time that is consistent with open play and a programmed class. The child(ren) is/are given structured, safe play within a socially interactive environment. Some of our members utilize this service weekly. There is only a days notice needed for reserving a slot for your child. This allows for child-free shopping, peace-of-mind appointments, or an occasional lunch with friends.
8. Do you offer sibling discounts?
Yes, our standard discount is 20% for a second child enrolled in a separate class. Discounts can reach as high as 50% if the sibling is in the same class/program.
9. What does the membership fee cover?
Membership entitles you to priority placement in a program class, discounted pricing (20%) on program fees and birthday parties, mailings, a Lasses & Lads t shirt for your child and, best of all, inclusion of your child (and you!) in special events at the PlaySpace (Holloween party, Easter egg hunt, and others).
10. Can a missed class be made up?
Yes, you can come to another class offered that week or you can make up a class during our Saturday “Open Play”.
11. Is there a discount for enrolling in a session early?
Yes, typically if you enroll (make payment) in a future session one week prior to the start of the new session, you can save an additional 10%.
12. Can I use my “Member punch card” for services other than “open play”?
Yes, the member card can be used for “drop and shop” and allows for a discounted rate.
13. Can I bring a friend to a class?
By all means! First-time visitors to Lasses & Lads PlaySpace are welcome anytime, but please call ahead to let us know they are coming.
You can earn a FREE CLASS if your friend decides to enroll.
